This is a course serving non-native English speaking undergraduate students. The overall goal of Academic English is to enable students to read, respond to and write academic texts in English.
You will be discussing academic formats and rhetorical options available for arguing your point of view in your papers (classification and argument, narration…) Also, as a student you will have the opportunity to interact with texts on a wide range of levels while working on new vocabulary.
Additionally, you will revise how to use conventions of quotation, citation and paraphrasing. Active participation in this workshop is required since you will be encouraged to work on your own understanding of academic reading and writing.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
- write paragraphs and short academic papers/essays in English
- read academic texts applying a clear set of reading strategies
- use an expanded repertoire of academic and business vocabulary
