    The Alps have become an important contributor to the long-term success of the
    Austrian tourism industry. In this course, students will get an overview of the
    history and specific characteristics of the tourism industry in Alpine regions.
    Experts and professionals in the field of alpine tourism introduce students to
    challenges and current trends in the industry. Students have the chance to
    improve their knowledge, ask questions and discuss experiences with their
    peers, lecturers and professionals.
    The goals of this course are:
    - To obtain a detailed understanding of the nature of alpine tourism, its
    development, challenges and its implications for various aspects of local life;
    - To learn about the social, cultural and environmental impacts of alpine
    tourism;

    Branding and destination management using the example of Tyrol

    Dr. Jacqueline McGibbon:
    Lecture and Case Study "St. Anton". The history of tourism in one particular alpine tourism destination (St. Anton am Arlberg), the current contours of alpine tourism in the region, how tourism has influenced and continues to influence local life and culture, the influence of wider economic and political developments on the alpine tourism industry in the region and the challenges and opportunities alpine tourism faces in the future.

    This course provides a dynamic and engaging learning experience by combining theory with contemporary practical knowledge, and incorporates lively discussions as well as both individual and group work. In addition, the course provides a comprehensive and in-depth exploration of alpine tourism through two excursions that focus on different aspects of the industry. These excursions offer a unique opportunity to gain insights into the background and workings of alpine tourism.
