Graduates of the course are able to create process engineering plants from a range of unit operations and instruments. They are familiar with the major phases in the planning and construction of process engineering plants. They know how to produce mass and energy balances and create flow charts. They additionally know how to perform capital cost estimates. The students moreover acquire the ability to construct essential systems and individual components for process engineering plants and equipment.

The course teaches students about the physical principles of common sensors used in process engineering and thus enables them to evaluate the quality of collected data and recognize the physical limitations in the use of respective sensors. Graduates of the course are familiar with the basic methods of error analysis and measurement data processing. They understand the structure and function of the most important actuators and are able to verify their areas of application.
