    Students learn about the basics of academic writing. They are acquainted with the different types of academic writing such as posters, presentations, and papers as well as respective quality criteria. Students learn independently by reading relevant scientific literature. At the end of the course, they are assigned to write a brief scientific text themselves. (Academic Writing)
    In addition, students develop central competence in linguistic exchange in science. They are tasked with the planning and organization of an English-language expert conference. (Literature Seminar)
    Students develop the ability to plan experiments based on methods of statistical design of experiments. They are well acquainted with the central concepts of statistical design of experiments. Furthermore, students acquire an understanding of which statistical requirements technical experiments have to meet and which statistical methods are appropriate for the evaluation of results.
    Finally, students acquire basic knowledge of research ethics. Consequently, they are enabled to take decisions on their future scientific career on the basis of valid ethical considerations and produce reasonable arguments. Each semester they are provided with the opportunity to discuss several excerpts from relevant source texts.
