The aim of the course is to give students an overview of relevant logistics and material flow technologies within and between companies. The technologies are presented and practical applications are discussed as well as their economic significance.

In principle, the course deals with three building blocks of materials handling: Firstly, relevant demand planning techniques are presented. The material flow resulting from this initial planning procedure is used in discussing logistics operations, where the second building block comprises techniques and solutions for the transport of goods in the out- and inbound transportation of plants. Lastly, the necessary handling inside the company perimeter is analyzed in building block three.

The course explains relevant solutions with respect to technical conception and appropriate implementation procedures of internal and external logistics operations. Most importantly, the course teaches specific solutions for material flow and handling in industrial settings.

•… the management of material flows to plants (supply chain management for process plants),
