Description

This webinar focuses on theoretical discussions of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The course covers the legal and organizational frameworks that support DEI initiatives and provides an overview of how policies and structures impact access to power and privilege. It explores the complexities of discrimination and unequal access to power and privilege at both structural and individual levels. The webinar uses intersectionality as a theoretical approach to examine how individuals experience discrimination or privilege across multiple dimensions of identity and diversity simultaneously. The course addresses the concept of unconscious bias and explores how implicit attitudes and stereotypes can influence behavior and decision making. In addition, the webinar explores the role of allies, individuals who actively support and advocate for marginalized groups, and discusses strategies for effective advocacy. Following this introductory webinar, participants will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge through an asynchronous course on SAKAI, allowing for flexible, self-paced learning. This subsequent course will provide in-depth coverage of the various diversity dimensions.
