Learning outcomes of the course unit
  • Students understand the most important thermal power, cooling and drying processes and/or procedures. They know all influencing parameters and the characteristics of components.

    Besides, they are able to carry out simple layout calculations for the procedures/machines.

    • Solid and liquid fuels
    • Flue gas condensation

    Thermal engines
    • Otto, Diesel and Seiliger process, Sterling process
    • Gas turbine processes
    • Vapour processes (Rankine and organic Rankine process)

    Refrigerators & heat pumps
    • Compression machines
    • Absorption machines
    • Adsorption machines
    • Radiators

    Desiccation
    • Drying processes with different materials
    • Elementary drying process in the h-x diagram
    • Procedures (drying conveyor, drum dryers, …)
