Learning outcomes of the course unit
  • The course consists of two main parts: Project Management and Process Management

    After the modules of the Project Management part, the students will be able to:
    - understand the difference between processes and projects
    - transform requirements of internal or external customers into a forward-oriented project plan
    - address various needs, concerns, and expectations of stakeholders in planning and executing a project
    - set up and carry out communications among stakeholders
    - understand the balance between project constraints of scope, cost, time
    - define a work breakdown structure (WBS) and derive a project schedule and costs
    - identify, analyze and manage risks
    - control a project in the execution phase
    - understand a process landscape

    After the modules of the Process Management part, the students will be able to:
    - understand the standard process models and the classification of processes
    - understand the generic process landscape of enterprises and how process oriented enterprises work
    - understand the lifecycle of projects
    - understand process characteristics in operational areas of enterprises
    - understand how a supply chain is working
    - understand what business process management and continuous improvement is
    - map and analyze processes in various illustrations

  • Characteristics of projects and programmes
    Project proposal and project assignment
    Systemic approaches to project management (project organisation, project context etc.)
    The project management process (commissioning, start, coordination, controlling, discontinuities, completion, acceptance)
    Methods and tools from project practice
    Project communication and documentation
    Change and quality management of projects
    International standards in project management
    Process definition and process orientation on organisations
    Types and elements of processes Process mapping and analysis of actual processes (notations, standards etc.)
    Design and representation of target processes
    Options for process optimisation
    Applied process management in practice
    Supply chain management
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
  • The course comprises a mix of lectures, discussions and individual / group work - 70% of time are used for exercises in form of individual and group work
