Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students know basic concepts of descriptive statistics, such as how to use percentages, means, median values, quartiles, or standard devia-tions to describe samples. They also understand basic inferential concepts, such as confidence intervals and correlations.

Course contents

“Basic Quantitative Methods” will be an introduction to basic statistics and descriptive statistics. Students will learn basic commands working with a statistics program (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R). Depending on stu-dents’ skill level a short introduction into inferential statistics (e.g., regression analysis) is possible.

The course comprises an interactive mix of lectures, discussions and individual and group work.
