Learning outcomes of the course unit
  • The students will be able to
    • understand open/closed loop control system
    • obtain a transfer function and state space model analytically from various dynamic systems
    • perform system identification
    • analyze the system response in the time domain, and frequency domain
    • linearize nonlinear systems by applying the Taylor series expansion
    • design analog and discrete controllers
    • utilize a computer-aided software (i.e. MATLAB) in the context of simulation and design of a controller for continuous and discrete systems

  • • Frequency domain methods
    • Notch filter, cascaded controller, feedforward and disturbance controller
    • State space, linearization & switching systems
    • Digital control systems
    • Discrete-time controller design

  • The course comprises an interactive mix of lectures, discussions and individual and group work.
