Metaverse and Higher Education: Spot the Avatar!
Building on our previous news article on Metaverse and Higher Education as a new learning and experience space, here is a video on Teaching@MCI where you can meet our new avatar Cindy. The special thing about the Metaverse is the focus on social interaction and the feeling of being able to be part of this "new world" by yourself. Cindy is now part of the MCI Learning Solutions team and you will meet her in the digital space from time to time.

Digital tools for more interactivity in the classroom
Need a breath of fresh air in your teaching? We've curated a selection of digital tools for you on the Teach Online site in the following four categories:
- Getting Started, Warm-up & Activation- Active learning- Collaborative work- Completion, Feedback, Assessment
When using digital tools, it is important that they also create a comprehensible, didactical, added value in the teaching setting, such as activating prior knowledge or guiding and supporting the learning process.

Please note: When using external tools, i.e. tools that have not been developed, centrally supported or hosted by the MCI, the handling of personal data must be checked and, if necessary, communicated to the students.
How can you use MOOCs for your own teaching?
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are not only a useful opportunity for continuing education and training for students, teachers and faculty. A MOOC or parts of it can be integrated into a course in different ways. This gives you the opportunity to integrate up-to-date as well as high-quality content from the respective subject area into your teaching.
Here are some strategies for integrating MOOCs into teaching:
- MOOC content (e.g. videos, resources, exercises) can be used as learning materials within or outside of class (flipped classroom model), e.g. to develop basic knowledge.- In face-to-face teaching, the MOOC content can be critically reflected upon and other perspectives or approaches can be developed.- Participation in the discussion forums of MOOCs can be incorporated as interactive elements in the asynchronous teaching (at the same time, this enables students to participate in an international community)- Students create resources (e.g. in the form of an assignment) and share them with the MOOC community- MOOCs can be made available as an optional add-on resource

Lifelong Learning am MCI
Why is lifelong learning so important? How do I actually learn properly?
The format of self-directed learning is, among other aspects, an important pillar of the competence of "lifelong learning". With the creation of self-learning units, students have the opportunity to practise this skill in a "supported" space. Self-directed learning also offers a high degree of flexibility in terms of time, which can be a great advantage especially for students who have other commitments (job, family, etc.). Furthermore, in this learning format, inequalities in terms of prior knowledge, interest in the subject matter, learning pace, etc. can be balanced out well.
