Learning outcomes of the course unit
  • In this course, students develop advanced professional and methodological competence in scientific research and writing. The course provides plenty of practical examples by drawing on the current areas of research focus of the departmental and other MCI programs related to process engineering. Complementary guest lectures by select experts from industry and academia are included to broaden the participants’ scientific horizons and add to their methodological range.
    The focus of the course is on:
    • Pharmaceutical biotechnology
    • Food engineering
    • Biomedicine and molecular biotechnology
    • Algal biotechnology
    • Environmental biotechnology
Course contents
  • In this course, students learn about the structure of scientific publica-tions. They are familiarized with different types of publications, ranging from articles published in journals to presentations and lectures typically given at scientific conferences. Practical assignments shall illustrate the form and content requirements for papers to document and scientifically discuss applied methods and obtained results. Exer-cises derived from specific studies further allow students to improve their academic writing and presentation skills.
