Learning outcomes of the course unit
  • In the post-genomic era, bioinformatics as a multidisciplinary field involving microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, computer science, and statistics emerged as key discipline for understanding, organization, and extraction of information by developing methodology and analysis tools to explore the large volumes of biological data. In this course, students are familiarized with all key aspects of bioinformatics including sequencing techniques and alignments, biological databases, searches and analyses, phylogenetics, and biostatistics.
Course contents
  • Introduction to Bioinformatics - Sequencing techniques, sequencing strategies and sequence analysis - Computational genomics - Databases for Molecular Biology - Alignment and BLAST search - Algorithmic bioinformatics - Prediction of genes and functions
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
  • Integrated course comprising lectures, exercises, and students' presentations.
