Learning outcomes of the course unit
  • Graduates of the course are aware of the basic principles of relevant areas of law. They are familiar with business law and the fundamentals of company law, income tax law as well as sales tax law. They moreover know about the basics of the Federal Procurement Act, which is particularly significant to future engineers.
Course contents
  • In the present course students acquire a basic understanding of:
    • contract law, contract design and the act of contract closing;
    • warranty and damages, product liability and safety;
    • competition and antitrust law;
    • company law and the choice of legal forms;
    • legal aspects of legal transactions across borders;
    • the fundamentals of income tax law for companies;
    • business-relevant transfer and excise tax as well as other dues;
    • distribution law in general (sales agents, commission agents, distributors etc.).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
  • The course comprises an interactive mix of lectures, discussions and individual and group work.
