Learning outcomes of the course unit
  • Students are guided through a step-bay-step approach to a clear understanding of EU Food Law Principles and applicable procedures for the authorization, labeling and advertising of various foodstuffs categories in the EU Market. Updates on key EU legislation and analysis of essential court judgements influencing EU practice will enable the students to obtain an overall, but also more detailed view, on the most important elements of food law in both theory and practice.

    - Foodstuffs on EU Market – applicable EU principles and legal prerequisites – role of EFSA
    - Food supplements
    - Organic products
    - Labeling – Latest developments on EU level and national level rules (Codex Alimentarius)
    - Advertising – EU Claims Regulation – Misleading practices (milestone judgements) – Green Claims - Role of national level bodies
    - EU Labeling Information System – Creating different product category labels for the EU market (food / beverage / food supplement)
    - Questions before the test and potential remaining points
