Learning outcomes of the course unit
This course is specially designed for students without a technical background.
The students are dealing with innovations in sustainability and their influence on different social, technical and economic areas. They develop solutions to avoid or reduce the consequences of climate change and inefficient use of resources. In their own contributions, they present approaches to solutions or lighthouse projects from their home countries and are able to critically discuss the currently taken measures.
Course contents
We are discussing future prospects and challenges in "Innovations for a sustainable future: International Student Conference ". There will be four conference days on different topics:
- WATER: how can we protect the global water resources in times of climate change?
- AIR: how can we lower the greenhouse gas emissions and protect our atmosphere?
- EARTH: how can we use this limited resource in a sustainable way / the concurrence of food, energy and material production?
- FIRE: is it possible to produce the world's energy demand without burning fossil fuels?
Students have to apply in the beginning of the semester on the available topics. They have to prepare the presentations / posters in self-study times. During the conference, a keynote is held by an expert, and students will contribute with their own presentations and posters. The posters will be displayed in the auditorium throughout the entire conference period, and a Best Poster Award will be given at the end of the conference.
