Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be able to read scientific articles in a critical manner and to analyse the scientific quality according to usual criteria of peer review procedures.
They will be in touch with a number of biotechnological methods and recent results and topics from different fields of biotechnology.
Students will learn to structure a scientific short talk based on an article.

Course contents

Students should gain a deeper understanding of how scientific results are achieved and how they are documented and published in a comprehensible manner. For this purpose, current articles from scientific journals are researched, analysed and compiled in a scientific context.
On the one hand, the focus will be on the methodology of original articles; on the other hand, students will also present broader contexts based on of the latest reviews from relevant journals.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course comprises an interactive mix of lectures, discussions and individual and group work.
