Learning outcomes of the course unit
  • Students will be able to read scientific articles in a critical manner and to analyse the scientific quality according to usual criteria of peer review procedures.
    They will be in touch with a number of biotechnological methods and recent results and topics from different fields of biotechnology.
    Students will learn to structure a scientific short talk based on an article.
Course contents
  • Students should gain a deeper understanding of how scientific results are achieved and how they are documented and published in a comprehensible manner. For this purpose, current articles from scientific journals are researched, analysed and compiled in a scientific context.
    On the one hand, the focus will be on the methodology of original articles; on the other hand, students will also present broader contexts based on of the latest reviews from relevant journals.

  • The course comprises an interactive mix of lectures, discussions and individual and group work.
