Learning outcomes of the course unit
  • The objective of this course is to introduce the students to the world of Linux and Computer Networks which play a vital role in many parts of industry. The learning outcome of this lecture would be

    - A strong foundation in Linux such as
    - Working with the command-line, files and folders, process management and slight programming where necessary

    - A good coverage of computer networks
    - How computers communicate, how does email works and its related standards (SMTP)
    - What is IP, DNS and other related terminologies.
    - Understand standard communication protocols (NRZ, AM, FM)
    - Understand what a MAC address is and why is it important.
    - How does Bluetooth works

    - In addition to the aforementioned outcomes, student will also get a better overall understanding of how fundamentally a computer works.

  • The course comprises an interactive mix of lectures, discussions and individual and group work.
