Smart Inclusion

Qualitative research was carried out into how Smart Glasses can be used to help making every-day life easier for the clients of the Lebenshilfe Tirol. The applied research methods were well chosen, which, on the one hand, provided a structured and clear literary basis as well as a detailed concept for the implementation of a knowledgeable focus group with an additional workshop.

THE CHALLENGE
As this project was in its initial phase, one challenge was the elaboration of a literary basis, with the help of the Systematic Literature Review, which will support further research. Another chal-lenge for this project was the identification of possible applications for the Lebenshilfe Tirol.

OUTCOMES
Using the systematic literature review, more then 11.000 potential results form 6 search portals could be found by using key words schematically. These were selected according to a scheme, resulting in 149 relevant publications. From the focus group with additional workshop, with the help of 4 social workers and social educators from the Lebenshilfe, challenges as well as possible scenarios for the use of smart glasses could be discussed. For example, great potential was seen in the field of independent living for activities such as moving the lawn, cleaning tables, mobility, cooking or shopping. Aspects of jealousy were identified as challenges. The question of how to ensure that the Smart Glasses do not lead to dependency and thus damage the independence of the clients was also critically questioned. It was also noted that there cannot be a fixed scheme according to which it is decided which clients can use the Smart Glasses and which can-not. This decision must always be tailored to the individual himself.
