Analysis of the situation and resources regarding local challenges, participation needs, and opportunities for targeted democracy-building in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
THE CHALLENGE
Efforts to promote democracy are particularly effective when they take into account local issues, needs for participation, and available resources. The central question, therefore, was: What challenges, opportunities, and civil society structures shape local democracy in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district, and what opportunities for targeted measures arise from this?
OUTCOMES
In the qualitative interview component, key perspectives of relevant stakeholders on the promotion of democracy in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district were gathered. The importance of early and ongoing democratic education for children and adolescents, as well as the involvement of local actors and existing resources, became particularly clear. These findings complement the other research components of the overall project and form an evidence-based foundation for the final report and a targeted, context-specific action plan.
Partner Statement:Democratic values and social cohesion must be actively upheld. The students in the Social, Health, and Public Management program have supported exactly this effort through their research—simply fantastic.
