ONLINE SERVICES

Access to online services may be limited to individual user groups, which are basically divided into active and inactive groups.
The following user groups are considered active and therefore receive full access to MCI online services including Sakai, Web-Mail, myMCI, eduroamTM, and the password-protected areas of mci.edu:

  • MCI staff members (team and faculty)
  • degree students enrolled in higher education or executive education programs
  • incoming exchange students
  • external lecturers
  • tutors

The following user groups are considered inactive and therefore receive limited access to MCI online services according to individual requirements:

  • former incoming exchange students
  • external lecturers who have not been teaching for more than 18 months
  • tutors who have not been tutoring for more than 18 months
  • alumni (including students who have dropped out, interrupted, or been excluded from their studies)

You have full access to the following services for the duration of your active involvement at MCI:

For graduates the access to MCI online services is partially limited.

Specifically this means that

  • your access to Sakai will automatically be disabled one year after the date of final examination. It is your personal duty to continuously back up your data already during your studies, or immediately after graduation the latest if you wish to use Sakai contents later on.
  • you will continue to have unlimited access to myMCI. You may use myMCI to update your personal data such as address or name, or to download documents of your completed degree course at any time.
  • you will receive an email to remind you of the possibility to renew your Web-Mail account one year after the date of final examination. If you submit an application for renewal, your account will remain active for another year. If not, your account will automatically be disabled within four weeks.
  • your access to Wi-Fi eduroam™ will be disabled immediately after final examination.
  • you will continue to have unlimited access to the password-protected areas of mci.edu also after your graduation.

In case you remain actively involved at MCI after completion of your degree, e.g. through enrollment in another program, teaching, or another kind of cooperation, your access to all online services will be renewed.

Former exchange students will continue to have access to Sakai, myMCI and Web-Mail up to half a year from the date on which they leave MCI. Access to Wi-Fi eduroam™ and the password-protected areas of mci.edu will be disabled immediately after completion of your exchange.

For reasons of safety we will in fact need to close your account. 18 months after your last day teaching at MCI your right to access Wi-Fi eduroam™, Sakai and the password-protected areas of mci.edu will gradually be restricted. If you continue to use your Mailbox regularly, you will receive an annual email to inform you about the possibility to renew your Web-Mail account. In case you submit an application for renewal, your account will remain active for another year. Otherwise the account will automatically be disabled within one month. You may continue using myMCI to update your personal data such as address, CV etc., and to download relevant documents.

For reasons of safety we will in fact need to close your account. 18 months after your last day tutoring at MCI your right to access Wi-Fi eduroam™, Sakai, Web-Mail and the password-protected areas of mci.edu will gradually be restricted. You may, however, continue using myMCI to update your personal data such as your address, and to download relevant documents.

For reasons of safety we will in fact need to close your account. With the date of your drop-out you will lose the right to access Wi-Fi eduroam™, the password-protected areas of mci.edu and Sakai. You will continue to have (limited) access to the online services of myMCI and Web-Mail for another six months.

For reasons of safety we will in fact need to close your account. With the beginning date of the interruption of your studies you will lose the right to access Wi-Fi eduroam™. All other online services, i.e. Sakai, myMCI, Web-Mail, and the password-protected areas of mci.edu, will continue to be fully accessible.

You will continue to have unlimited access to myMCI and Web-Mail for six months from the beginning date of your exclusion from MCI studies. Access to Sakai, eduroam™ and the password-protected areas of mci.edu will be disabled immediately.

I have been a tutor at MCI, but inactive for an extended period of time. Will I now lose the right to access MCI online services?

Even if you are no longer actively involved at MCI, you have the possibility to continue usage of the MCI Web-Mail services and your mci4me.at email address. In order to make use of this possibility, you will have to submit your application for renewal within four weeks upon receipt of the email.

You will be reminded of the possibility to renew your Web-Mail account via email once a year. Graduates will receive the email with the option for account renewal one year after the date of final examination for the first time. Teachers will receive a reminder to renew their account shortly after their last day teaching at MCI.

WEB-MAIL ACCOUNT DEACTIVATION

  • For future communication use an alternate email address.
  • Make sure to inform your contacts about your new email address.
  • Save relevant contact information.
  • Save relevant emails and attachments: Your Mailbox will be disabled permanently and all emails deleted within six months after deactivation of your account.

myMCI

Yes, it is. If you wish to export data from mySchedule, log on to myMCI, select “Schedule” and “myICal”. You will then receive a link to create an .ics file. Download the file and import it into the desired calendar.

Yes, it is, but only in case you use myICal as mentioned above.

Yes, there is. Once you have logged on to the system, you can select the language (“German”/“English”) via a button in the top right corner.

Yes, they are. Any dates older than seven days will be removed from your calendar in order to reduce the load on our server and possibly used devices such as smart phones.

Sakai (Learning Management System)

First of all, make sure to have logged on to https://sakai.mci4me.at/portal/login using your full Sakai user ID. Click the “More Sites” register and search the current semester for your course. Files can be uploaded under “Resources” via “Add”.

Sakai sites older than four years are automatically removed from the server to ensure the system’s consistent level of performance.

Resource may be uploaded and then restricted to a specific group of users. Users who are not members of this group thus receive an error message upon trying to access the resource.

First of all, keep cool. You do not have to start over. In the rare case that a browser error occurs during a test, do not log off Sakai. Click the blue double arrow (reset) located in the top left corner of each tool. This will take you back to the “Tests & Quizzes” site, where you can select the test anew. You can now continue the test where you left off due to the previous error.

The message has been written via Sakai. It therefore makes more sense to also reply via Sakai. The platform additionally offers a wider range of tools for writing messages.

MCI-Mailbox (Web-Mail-Account)

The option to automatically forward incoming emails was disabled in 2012. Due to technical reasons emails sent to your mci4me email address can no longer be redirected. You may, however, access your MCI Mailbox via Web-Mail or IMAP.

The MCI Mailbox supports attachments of up to 20 MB per email. Please remember that the receiving server, however, may have different limitations.

In order to determine the cause for this problem and find a solution, please take the following steps:

  • Check your network connection.
  • Log on to an alternate email account and send an email to your mci4me email address. If it does not arrive, your inbox is probably full.
  • Check the memory space of your inbox via the percentage bar at the bottom of the site. If it has reached 100 %, you need to delete emails or empty your inbox. See e for tips on how to clear up your MCI Mailbox.

In case you use an external device such as a smart phone or tablet to access your MCI Mailbox, check whether the settings are correct. Click here for detailed instructions on how to correctly install your MCI Mailbox.

Click the email you wish to delete and press “Delete message” in the menu bar at the top of the email:

Should the email still be displayed in your inbox, you have to change the configuration of your server in order to delete messages permanently. Enter “Settings”, select “Server Settings”, and set the preferences as follows:

  • Check “Mark messages as read on delete” and “Hide deleted messages” under the General section.
  • Check “Clear Trash on logout” under the Maintenance section.

Log on to myMCI at https://my.mci4me.at. Under “Profile” you may change your password at any time.

Yes, it is indeed possible to use eduroamTM all around the world, as long as the respective partner universities provide access to Wi-Fi and you are in possession of a valid MCI user ID. In order to establish a connection, you need to specify your MCI login data: Enter your MCI user ID and password.

Please take the following steps in order to determine the cause of the problem:

  • Consider the FAQs about our online services to find out whether your account may have been disabled for reasons of safety.
  • Check the preferences of your operating system: For tutorials on how to correctly adapt your settings click here.
  • Try to log on to other MCI online services such as Sakai or myMCI.

Should you be unable to access these services, please click here to reset or change your password.

Experience has shown that most of the known problems arise from the use of outdated drivers. We therefore ask you to install the most recent Wi-Fi drivers. Please, make sure not to use drivers provided by notebook manufacturers. Instead opt for drivers produced by the same manufacturers as your Wi-Fi hardware: These generally tend to be more up to date.

We moreover strongly recommend that you adopt the pre-installed Wi-Fi management software by Windows and refrain from the application of alternate management software, especially if produced by notebook manufacturers such as Sony Smart Network.
