Learning outcomes of the course unit
  • Students know the fundamentals (EU competencies, EU institutions, and EU decision-making) and effects (principles and fundamental freedoms) of EU law.

    Students are familiar with the EU decision-making process by experiencing it 'first hand' in terms of a one-day role-play in the context of “supply chains”.

    Students also demonstrate critical thinking skills in their approach to identify reflect and discuss the impact of the EU’s values when solving practical cases in the field of the EU's 'fundamental freedoms'.

    Furthermore, students can research the necessary documents in the relevant EU databases.
Course contents
  • - Fundamentals of the institutional law of the European Union
    - Concepts and essential features (primacy, direct effect, etc.) of Union law
    - Legal norms (primary law and in particular secondary law)
    - Single European Market law:
    o Fundamentals and principles
    o Free movement of goods
    o Free movement of workers
    o Freedom of establishment
    o Free movement of services
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
  • The course comprises an interactive mix of lectures, discussions and individual and group work.
