Work Schedule Models at the Privatklinik Kettenbrücke

Date 2026-07-20

The project examined how existing work-time models are used at the Privatklinik Kettenbrücke and how they are perceived by employees.

THE CHALLENGE

The healthcare sector is under pressure due to demographic change, increasing need for care and a shortage of skilled workers. The increasing workload places a strain on nursing staff and can lead to burnout, lower job satisfaction and staff turnover. Work schedule models are therefore becoming increasingly important, as they can reduce stress, promote well-being and strengthen employee retention.

OUTCOMES

The results of the study show that the fixed duty or shift models, as well as scheduling with employee preferences, are used most frequently. Overall, the existing work schedule models at the Privatklinik Kettenbrücke are preceived largely positively and are associated with high levels of general and work-related satisfaction. At the same time, differences in employees’ needs became evident. Predictability, work-life balance, and employee involvement in shaping work schedules were found to be particularly relevant. In addition, requirements for work schedule arrangements vary depending on life stages. Based on these results, five key areas for action were identified that could serve as a guide for the Privatklinik Kettenbrücke in further developing its work schedule arrangements.
